What the hell is wrong with people? Part One.
People in official Washington have known for years that Sen. Larry Craig of Idaho (a state nobody cares about anyway) is a closeted butt pirate. I guess the view of Republicans is that as long as you keep your gay sex hidden from your wife and your kids and your grandkids and your constituents and confine your cravings for cock to airport bathrooms, etc. then it's perfectly fine for you to be gay.THAT, they can live with. But, this man got busted for attempting to solicit sex in a public restroom. Then, he was released on his own recognizance and given the opportunity to plead guilty to a LESSER offense than the original charge and pay HALF of a fine totaling $1,000. This man is a United States Senator who got to try to fuck an undercover cop and all he had to do was mail in his plea and pay $500.
As we all know now, a judge in Minneapolis denied Craig's motion to withdraw his guilty plea. I sat down and read the entire order from the court detailing the ruling. Interestingly, Craig knew full well what he was doing and what his plea agreement entailed sixty days before it was entered. He had numerous conversations with the prosecutor, who, incidentally, advised him more than once to seek counsel. He then received the plea agreement to the lesser charge of a petty misdemeanor and had to initial every page and then sign the plea agreement. He then sent it AND a money order for the fine and court costs by FedEx to the court so that it would be received in time. The prosecutor went so far as to gain a continuance of a week so Craig could read over the documents and have enough time to decide what he wanted to do.
Thank goodness the judge denied the motion. But, Craig is deciding to stay in the Senate anyway...after he went on national television and announced his resignation to come at the end of September. I have read that his senatorial colleagues are not even bothering to give him a hard time. One news report mentioned a long and "warm" conversation being observed between Craig and Dianne Feinstein on the Senate floor. Where is a censure? Where is an expulsion? Where is the news conference where the Senate leadership from both sides of the aisle say, "You know what, you said you were resigning. We don't want you here."
Better yet, where is the public outcry? Recently, it disgusted me to see an email come through my inbox at work where a former UMD professor said that it was wrong to view what Craig did as unethical and unlawful. People have lost their fucking mind.
